About Us

Thank you for your interest in my law practice and the services my staff and I can provide to you, your family or your business. Following is a brief biography outlining my education and legal experience.

I was born in Laconia N.H. on June 2, 1966 and graduated from the Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville in 2000 where I was a member of the Brandeis Law Review and received the Brandeis Writing Award, the International Academy of Trial Attorneys Trial Advocacy Award and the Edward Post Litigation Skills Award.

Before law school, I graduated cum laud from Middlebury College in 1988 with a B.A. in American Literature and then attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts from 1988- 1990 before joining the Academy's resident theater company for its 1990-91 season. After attending Columbia University for one semester, I finished my graduate studies at Hunter College in 1996 with an M.A. in Theater.

I opened my law office in Staunton, Virginia in the Spring of 2004 and I handle all facets of divorce litigation and family law, including spousal and child support, equitable distribution of property and child custody. I have a significant amount of experience litigating guardianship and conservator petitions as well as intra-family disputes involving wills, trusts and fiduciary breaches of duty.

I also defend individuals who are facing criminal charges in state or federal court. I have handled dozens of bench and jury trials throughout Virginia involving issues ranging from DUI through First Degree Murder. I have appealed numerous cases to conclusion in the Virginia Court of Appeals and Supreme Court as well as in the federal Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. I am a member of the Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Criminal Defense and Family Law sections of the Virginia State Bar.

My business litigation experience includes contract and commercial code disputes, the enforcement of mechanic's liens, commercial fraud, collections and bankruptcy. I am also experienced with real estate and zoning litigation as well as government tort claims. I have litigated cases in the state, federal and administrative courts of Virginia, West Virginia, Texas, New York, Delaware and Pennsylvania

Before opening my own law office, I practiced Employment and Business Litigation with a large law firm in Harrisonburg, Virginia where I served as Chairman of the firm’s Employment Law Group. My experience in employment litigation includes the defense of management in federal and state claims involving ERISA, Title VII, The Fair Labor Standards Act, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, the Virginia Wage Payment Act and the Virginia Worker's Compensation Act. I also have extensive experience drafting and litigating employment agreements and non-competition agreements.

I live with my wife and two children in Staunton, Virginia where I serve on the Vestry of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and the Board of Directors for the Staunton Performing Arts Center.

The lawyer has not reached the height of his vocation who does not find therein...scope for a peculiar but genuine artistic function.
